My name is Gabrielle, or Gabriella if we’re chatting in Spanglish and welcome to Wellness Wednesdays, volume I. Gracias for finding my tiny sala (living room) of the internet, your amiga is officially checking in. Over the years I’ve become a go-to person for several things wellness related, probably because I’ve gone from “Gangsta to Grandma Gab” living in hygge, I am thoroughly embracing my new Señora era. The term wellness right now has become saturated, thanks to influencer culture but most of my suggestions have little to no cost and the return is a major investment in your overall wellbeing. Charlamagne tha God says it best: “Invest in your mental wealth, it’s the true bag.”
As a listener of the Dear Gabby Podcast with Gabby Bernstein, not only did the name peak my interest but this past week’s topic of setting KPIs for your mental health stayed with me, since my work brain hasn’t really turned off while I’m on maternity leave. For those who may not be familiar corporate America loves a good acronym: Key Performance Indicators, as the name states is a pulse check on how things are truly going. Much like corporate America, we don’t want to only focus on the good status of things, but we need to put in continual work on the struggle stats, as much as we don’t want to. First, you need to identify what are your own personal KPIs or themes below are some examples of my current top three:

1. Present vs. Perfect
Everyone does it for the gram but am I living in the current moment or just seeking perfection? Spoiler Alert, if I’m being fully present, it’s a moment that more than likely won’t be captured on my phone or if it is, usually a candid. Also, being okay with accepting the fact that nothing is ever truly perfect.
2. Happiness & Joy
My EOD (end of day) recap which is honestly hard to do after a low day, I make a rundown of things that brought me true happiness or joy, bonus points if you write it down. Happiness as cliché as it sounds, is an inside job, it’s up to you and no one else. My nieces made me a friendship bracelet, *me happy AF.* My extended fam’s boyfriend made a pencil sketch of mi bebe on the fly in 20 minutes randomly just because and I ugly cried from literal happiness.
3. De verdad a.k.a for real? Am I being authentic where possible. Every single person has their “customer service voice” the one that’s fake AF. We probably learned it as kids to get something we wanted or if we worked in the service and retail industries, we did it to close a sale or guarantee our tip. Is our customer service voice on too much during the day? Do I care too much or what people think or am I living boldly, standing in my truth and doing it for the plot to quote Serena Kerrigan.
These will remain fluid as long as life, is life-ing and they'll change every quarter or Ayurvedic season if you’re into that sort of thing, like me. So go forth, check in with yourself and be brutally honest. What additional KPIs should we explore next?
